Texas Rangers' right-hander Yu Darvish will start the season on the 15-day disabled list, the team's general manager Jon Daniels revealed Saturday.

Darvish was placed on the 60-day disabled list and not on the 40-man roster last year after he underwent elbow surgery in March, but is looking likely to make his comeback within 60 days as he aims for a mid-May return.

The 29-year-old threw 45 pitches without trouble on Friday, the most since surgery, and played catch on Saturday trying some breaking balls.
