Japan international defender Yuto Nagatomo scored in the shootout but Inter Milan were knocked out of the Coppa Italia on penalties by Juventus after producing a stirring comeback in the second leg of their semifinal on Wednesday night.

Inter lost the first leg 3-0 but Marcelo Brozovic hit a brace and Ivan Perisic also found the target to make it all square at 3-3 after 90 minutes.

Thirty minutes of extra time failed to produce any more goals but although Nagatomo comfortably converted his kick in the shootout, Inter's Rodrigo Palacio missed earlier and Juve won 5-4 to book a place in the against AC Milan in Rome in May.

"Luck plays a part in penalty shootouts and it is quite difficult," said Nagatomo, who appears set to sign a new contract with Inter after reportedly turning down approaches from Liverpool and Manchester United.

"But we showed a great deal of heart and hopefully we can continue to produce this kind of performance."

In Bundesliga action, Gotoku Sakai had a hand in both of his team's goals but Hamburg lost 3-2 away to Schalke.
