LOS ANGELES – Keith Thurman’s promoter said the unbeaten WBA welterweight champion has been injured in a car accident, forcing the postponement of his March 12 title bout against Shawn Porter.
A new date for the much-anticipated matchup wasn’t immediately announced Monday.
Promoter Lou DiBella said Thurman’s doctors believe the fighter’s neck injury isn’t serious. But Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) hasn’t been cleared to resume training for the bout slated for the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) was scheduled to challenge Thurman on CBS in the network’s first prime-time boxing event since 1978. The network broadcast also will be rescheduled, DiBella said.
