OSLO – Sara Takanashi soared to her eighth straight World Cup ski jumping victory on Thursday night, extending her lead in the overall standings.
The teenager had the longest jumps in both rounds — 137.5 followed by 136 meters — for a total of 305.8 points.
Local favorite Maren Lundby finished in second place with 285.1 after jumps of 136.5 and 134 meters.
Russia’s Irina Avvakumova finished in third with 254.7.
“I don’t have so many opportunities to jump a large hill, that’s why I was really enjoying it a lot,” Takanashi said after the win. “I am still working on improving my approach. I always strive to be better.”
Takanashi’s triumph gives her 980 points in the overall rankings after 10 of the 19 rounds of competition. She’s now 331 points ahead of second placed Daniela Iraschko-Stolz of Austria, who finished fourth.
Slovenia’s Maja Vtic is third on 448 points.
Lundby seemed content despite finishing second.
“I had so much fun today, especially in front of my home crowd and family,” Lundby stated. “I love the large hills.”
“I felt good and I am in good shape,” commented Avvakumova. “So I was already thinking about jumping to the podium.”
