The Hiroshima Carp have signed 28-year-old right-hander Jay Jackson, the Central League club announced Thursday.

The 185-cm Jackson pitched in six games this season and posted a 6.23 ERA for the San Diego Padres after earning his first promotion to the big leagues. In Triple-A El Paso this year, Jackson went 3-3 with 14 saves in 48 games. He struck out 70 batters in 63-2/3 innings with 17 walks.

Jackson, whose fastball tops 150 kph, signed for an estimated $600,000 (roughly ¥72.6 million) plus incentives and a $75,000 signing bonus.
