The Seattle Mariners' Hisashi Iwakuma won his first American League Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Iwakuma, 34, threw a no-hitter against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, the fifth in Seattle history.

He is the first Japanese recipient of the weekly award since Ichiro Suzuki in September 2012.

Iwakuma was the first American League pitcher to throw a no-hitter in three years and the second Japanese to accomplish the feat after Hideo Nomo, who did it in 1996 and 2001.
