Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said Friday that right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma will return to start Monday's game against the Detroit Tigers at Safeco Field.

Iwakuma went on the disabled list in late April with a strained lat muscle, but he has been working his way back and made his first rehab start in the minors on June 20.

In his third rehab assignment on Tuesday, the 34-year-old allowed one run on five hits over 5-2/3 innings in Triple-A Tacoma's 8-4 win against Las Vegas.

The former Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles ace has pitched in just three games for Seattle this season and is 0-1 with a 6.61 ERA.
