Yoshihide Kiryu will miss the national championships at the end of June in Niigata, which serve as a qualifying event for the world championships in August in Beijing, his coach said Friday.

"He will not participate (in the nationals). We'll not predetermine when he'll return and we'll be careful with our judgment," said Toyo University coach Hiroyasu Tsuchie of the 19-year-old Kiryu, who sustained a right hamstring strain in late May while training.

Kiryu had entered the 100 and 200 meters in the national championships but only has just begun light jogging, according to the coach.
