Outfielder Jeremy Hermida will temporarily return to the United States, having broken the base of his left thumb, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters said Saturday.

Hermida was injured during the Fighters' 1-0 defeat to the Hanshin Tigers on June 6 and was deactivated two days later.

The 31-year-old joined Nippon Ham this season and has a .221 batting average and 18 RBIs in 44 games, homering once.
