Mainz wants to start negotiating with FC Tokyo this week to sign Japan striker Yoshinori Muto, Kicker reported on Monday.

According to the German magazine, Mainz plans to send a representative to Japan in the coming days with the hope of striking a deal for the 22-year-old Muto, who has an offer from newly crowned Premier League champion Chelsea on the table.

Kicker said Mainz can come up with the fee of €5.5 million, or nearly ¥740 million, by selling Muto's international teammate Shinji Okazaki, who is the target of Borussia Monchengladbach and several Premier League clubs.

Muto has six goals in 10 J. League games for second-place Tokyo so far this season.
