Hideki Matsuyama overturned a two-hole deficit on Thursday with three late birdies and an eagle in the second round of the Match Play Championship.

Playing against the Netherlands' Joost Luiten, the 16th seed Matsuyama put himself behind with bogeys on Nos. 1 and 3 at San Francisco's TPC Harding Park before rallying with a hat trick of birdies from No. 14. Luiten, seeded 44th, shot par on every hole until the 18th.

Trailing by one, Luiten birdied the par-5 No. 18, only for Matsuyama to put an exclamation mark on his second victory by sinking an 11-foot eagle putt.
