The fifth world championship of American football will played in a new format in the sport's mother country this summer, according to the International Federation of American Football website.

Canton, Ohio, will be the host of the international competition, which takes place once every four years. Originally, Stockholm was named the host of this year's championship, but was forced to give up the plan in December because of financial problems. The IFAF chose Canton, where the Pro Football Hall of Fame is located, as the replacement city and rescheduled it to run from July 8-19.

The participants were reduced to eight from 12 as originally planned, and the eight nations will be seeded due to their IFAF rankings. Two-time defending champion United States is the top seed, followed by Canada, Japan and Mexico. Those four are categorized as Group A and play each other in the first round.

Group B consists of France, Australia, South Korea and Brazil, which are ranked fifth to eight, respectively.

Group A's top-three finishers and the Group B winner will advance to the semifinals, while the two groups' last-place teams and the other three will play in the consolation round.
