Japan manager Javier Aguirre said Sunday that he has yet to be contacted by Spanish authorities over the match-fixing scandal implicating him in a reportedly staged La Liga match in 2011.

Aguirre, upon returning from Sydney where Japan was eliminated in the Asian Cup quarterfinals on Friday, addressed the issue for the first time since reports out of Spain said that a court in Valencia has accepted the case with the two-time World Cup coach of Mexico potentially facing prosecution.

Aguirre had refused to talk about the case during the Asian Cup, saying he wanted to focus on the soccer. Japan lost to the United Arab Emirates on penalties, failing to defend the title it won at Qatar 2011.
