The Miami Marlins have offered free agent outfielder Ichiro Suzuki a one-year contract worth $2 million, according to a Miami Herald report on Wednesday.

The team announced on its official website on Sunday that a possible two-year deal with the 41-year-old was under consideration.

Ichiro, a 10-time American League All-Star, may be holding out for a longer contract or an opportunity for greater playing time, as Miami's starting positions in the outfield are all locked up.

Another potential suitor could be the Baltimore Orioles, who according to media reports on Monday are considering Ichiro after losing outfielders Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis to free agency.

Ichiro played in 143 games last season with the New York Yankees, batting .284 with 102 hits, his fewest in any season since moving to the major leagues. His total number of hits in the majors over 14 years remains 156 shy of the 3,000 mark.
