The Miami Marlins are preparing to table a two-year deal in the acquisition of 10-time All-Star Ichiro Suzuki, the team announced on its official website on Sunday.

The Marlins are in the market for a fourth outfielder and the 41-year-old Ichiro, who is a free agent from the New York Yankees, fits the bill. The team's regular outfielders, featuring 2014 National League home run champion Giancarlo Stanton, are locked up.

Ichiro batted .284 with just 102 hits — his lowest production since moving to the major leagues — in 143 games last season. Ichiro is just 156 hits shy of the 3,000 mark in the majors, and a two-year deal could help him achieve that milestone.
