Basketball's world governing body on Sunday flat-out rejected the idea of hosting part of the Olympic competition for Tokyo 2020 in Osaka.

Last month during its Tokyo visit, the International Olympic Committee's Coordination Commission suggested holding the basketball preliminaries in Osaka and other cities around Japan in a similar fashion to the soccer tournament.

FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann, however, shot down the proposal, saying the Olympics should be organized in Tokyo and no other city.

Baumann added that basketball needs two venues in the Tokyo area, one each for men and women, to avoid having to play games in the morning.
