Fukuoka Softbank Hawks acting owner Yoshimitsu Goto on Friday expressed interest in acquiring the services of free agent right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka.

"He is a good player. We will see (about decisions on reinforcements) from now," said Goto. "I will discuss this with (the staff and coaches). We will make a comprehensive decision based on the necessary reinforcements for the team."

The Pacific League champion Hawks beat the Hanshin Tigers in five games to clinch their first Japan Series championship in three years on Thursday night.

"Pitching is a tough position," Goto said. "It's always an important point for us. Had we not had reinforcements this year, we would have had a very hard time."

This season, Matsuzaka went 3-3 with one save and a 3.89 ERA in 34 games, including nine starts, with the New York Mets.
