The Seibu Lions on Wednesday announced that outfielder Ernesto Mejia will remain with the Pacific League club next season, with a contract to be finalized at a later date.

"It is an honor that I can be cheered on again by the fans as a member of the Seibu team next year," Mejia said in a club statement.

The Venezuela-born Meija played for the Atlanta Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett this season before joining Seibu in May.

He hit a PL-leading 34 home runs, 73 RBIs and had a .290 batting average in 106 appearances.
