Rika Masuya scored twice as women's world champion Japan took a step closer to defending its Asian Games title on Friday, thrashing Hong Kong 9-0 to advance to the semifinals.

Nanase Kiryu also grabbed a double in a game that resembled little more than a training exercise for Norio Sasaki's team, which will now face Vietnam in the last four on Monday. Vietnam beat Thailand 2-1

Masuya opened the scoring in the third minute and headed Japan into a 4-0 halftime lead after an own goal from He Ying and Emi Nakajima's 13th minute free kick had put Japan in control.

Azusa Iwashimizu made it 5-0 shortly after the break and later goals from Kiryu, Megumi Takase and Yuika Sugasawa extended the lead before Kiryu completed her brace and the demolition 10 minutes from time.
