Masahiro Tanaka will throw his second bullpen session Wednesday on the road to rejoining the New York Yankees' rotation.

The Yankees made the decision on Tuesday, when Tanaka, who has been on the disabled list with an elbow ligament injury, played catch for five minutes ahead of New York's game against the Houston Astros.

According to pitching coach Larry Rothschild, Tanaka threw breaking balls on flat ground Monday at Yankee Stadium for the first time since being injured.

Tanaka threw five splitters and sliders each at mound distance, Rothschild said.
