New York Mets right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka threw three scoreless innings in his first rehab start in Single-A St. Lucie's game on Monday night against Bradenton.

Matsuzaka, who went on the DL last month with elbow inflammation, allowed one hit while striking out three and walking none. Bradenton won the game 5-4.

Matsuzaka went on the DL on July 26 after complaining of discomfort in his elbow after pitching two innings in relief in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on July 24.

The former Boston Red Sox ace threw off the mound in a bullpen practice on Aug. 4 for the first time since going on the DL.

This season, Matsuzaka has a 3-3 record with one save and a 3.87 ERA in 28 appearances, including nine starts.
