New York Mets right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka threw off the mound in a bullpen practice Monday for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation.

The 33-year-old Matsuzaka came out in uniform before his team's game against the San Francisco Giants. He played a game of long toss before starting his pitching session and threw 46 pitches, mixing in his changeup in a light workout.

This season, Matsuzaka has a 3-3 record with one save and a 3.87 ERA in 28 appearances, including nine starts.

Matsuzaka went on the DL on July 26 after complaining of discomfort in his elbow after pitching two innings in relief in a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on July 24.
