Tigers’ Fujinami tosses eight scoreless innings against Marines

Kyodo

Shintaro Fujinami yielded just three hits over eight shutout innings, cleanup hitter Mauro Gomez had an RBI double and the Hanshin Tigers blanked the Chiba Lotte Marines 2-0 in a makeup game on Tuesday night.

The Marines, who slipped back to .500, snapped a six-game winning streak and lost for the first time in interleague play.

Fujinami (3-3) struck out six, walked three and hit a batter in a 120-pitch outing in front of a crowd of 26,441 at Koshien Stadium. The right-hander won his first decision since April 30. South Korean Oh Seung-hwan closed out the ninth for his 13th save.

Hideaki Wakui (2-6) threw two-run ball over eight innings but failed to get the necessary run support.

Captain Takashi Toritani drew a fourth-inning leadoff walk, stole second and scored on Gomez’s hit down the left-field line. Kosuke Fukudome added a sacrifice fly with one out in the same inning.
