NEW YORK – New York Mets right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka will get a spot start when he pitches in the second game of a doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, pitching coach Dan Warthen revealed on Friday.
The game against the D-Backs is a makeup for Friday’s rainout.
Matsuzaka, who will make his first start of the season, has made 14 relief appearances but is hoping for a starter’s role.
“I’ll be starting Sunday instead of pitching relief. This time I think it will only be for Sunday,” said Matsuzaka.
