Tokyo Yakult Swallows outfielder Lastings Milledge has undergone shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, the Central League club announced on Wednesday.

Milledge, who has been in the United States for detailed examinations on his injured right shoulder, was diagnosed with a damaged labrum and has had surgery. He will not be able to play for six months, essentially ruling him out for the rest of the season.

The 29-year-old, who is in his third season with the Swallows, played in just 10 games this season. In 2013, Milledge ruptured a ligament in his left ankle in August and played in just 96 games.

Milledge batted .300 with 23 home runs in his 2012 debut season and is under contract through 2015.
