Ryo Ishikawa put together a 1-under-par 71 in the final round of the Houston Open Sunday, but it was not enough as he finished in a share of 31st at 3-under 285, meaning he will miss playing in his sixth consecutive Masters Tournament.
Ishikawa, 22, needed to win the Houston Open as a condition to play in this year's Masters starting Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
"My shots were at about 50 percent, and considering that I did pretty well," said Ishikawa. "Overall, my golf has been getting better. I'm discovering things every week and that's fun."
"It's too bad (I can't play in the Masters), but I want to start from now aiming for next year to clear the world rankings criteria so I am able get there," he said.
Matt Jones of Australia, who shot a 66 in regulation, triumphed over Matt Kuchar in a playoff after the pair finished in tie for first at 15 under to claim his first victory and a spot at the Masters.
