Former New York Yankee outfielder Hideki Matsui will be one of 30 former major leaguers to take part in a Hall of Fame Classic in Cooperstown on May 24, the Baseball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday.

Matsui, 39, will represent his former team for the Memorial Day weekend event. Former Cleveland Indians slugger Jim Thome, who hit 612 major league home runs, and catcher Ivan Rodriguez from the Texas Rangers are also among 23 former players already confirmed for the event.

Matsui will make the trip to Cooperstown for the second time following a visit when he still played for the Yomiuri Giants in 1999.

"You don't get many chances like this to play a game at Cooperstown," Matsui said. "I'm representing the former Yankees, so I want to be sure I play admirably."

Six members already inducted into the Hall of Fame, including Andre Dawson, Roberto Alomar, Rollie Fingers, Eddie Murray, Phil Niekro and Ozzie Smith, will serve as coaches and managers.
