Japan's Gentildonna erased the disappointment of last year's runnerup finish by winning the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic under Ryan Moore on Saturday.

Trained by Sei Ishizaka, Gentildonna was trapped on the inside rail down the final couple of furlongs by Cirrus Des Aigles, but Moore pulled her out and she produced a powerful turn of foot to win by 1½ lengths at Meydan.

"It was very rough early on. I managed to get a nice slot and I was getting a nice enough run, but I was just hemmed in a bit in the straight," Moore was quoted as saying by the Racing Post. "But when I pulled her out she has quickened up very well. She has got an awful lot of heart.

He added: ". . . She got warm beforehand but she is obviously exceptionally talented, she has done more than I expected her today."
