The Chicago Cubs released pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada on Sunday.

The 33-year-old left-hander was on a minor-league deal and had been invited to spring training, but allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5⅔ innings during the preseason.

Wada may sign a new contract with the Cubs but on different terms. The former Fukuoka Softbank Hawk had Tommy John surgery two years ago when he was with the Baltimore Orioles, and still has not pitched in the majors.
