Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish allowed two runs in three innings on Tuesday, his second preseason outing of the spring.
Darvish, who hurled two scoreless innings in his first Cactus League game, allowed three hits and a walk, but did not register a strikeout in a 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels' Raul Ibanez led off the second inning with a home run off a Darvish fastball.
"I wanted to see if I could get a popup on a fastball," Darvish said. "That was one heck of a popup."
Angels star Mike Trout lined out and had a single against Darvish. In their two seasons facing each other in the American League West, Trout has hit .321 in 28 at-bats against the Japanese right-hander with four home runs and a .441 on-base percentage.
Darvish said he wants to get better results against him this year. During the game, Trout saw all fastballs from Darvish, who said he wasn't going to show him anything in the preseason
"I wasn't going to tip my hand," Darvish said. "I want to create a different feel this year."
Trout told MLB.com, "It's going to be interesting. I'm curious to see what he does, see what happens. Over the years, facing him, we've had a little rivalry going," Trout said. "It's pretty cool. He's throwing his best stuff, and I'm trying to hit his best stuff. We're having fun out there, and that's how it should be."
