AC Milan has begun the necessary procedure with the Italian Football Federation to complete the signing of Japan international midfielder Keisuke Honda, the Serie A club said Friday.

"Even for a club like Milan, used to signing some of the world's best-ever players, the media interest surrounding Honda's signing will be intense," Milan said on its official website.

The process has started to obtain Honda's work permit and certification of international transfer, and Milan said club director Umberto Gandini is looking after the details.
