Former Gamba Osaka boss Akira Nishino will succeed Dragan Stojkovic as manager of Nagoya Grampus next season, sources with knowledge of the appointment told Kyodo News.

Nishino's deal is expected to be for one year and will be announced in the coming days.

The 58-year-old Nishino is the J. League's most successful coach of all time with 244 victories in the top flight. At Gamba, he won the league in 2005 and the Asian Champions League in 2008, as well as two Emperor's Cups (2008, 2009) and the Nabisco Cup (2007).

Nishino parted ways with Gamba in 2011 and took over at Vissel Kobe the following year but was sacked midway through last season before the club was relegated.

Stojkovic leaves Nagoya after six seasons in charge. His team won the J1 title in 2010 but finished 11th this year, 16 points behind champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
