Defending champion Sara Takanashi opened the World Cup women's ski jumping season with victory on Saturday.

Takanashi scored a total of 286.0 points with jumps of 102 and 96.5 meters. The 17-year-old held off Germany's Gianina Ernst and Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, who shared second place with 270.0, for her 10th career win.

"I'm happy with the result, but not about the performance," Takanashi said. "Yet I did win a lot of style points which adds to my confidence. I've got the physical strength now to stay aggressive."

In the third leg of the men's competition, Taku Takeuchi finished second with 283.5 after jumping 99 and 100.5 meters, behind Austria's Gregor Schlierenzauer, who won with 288.5.
