Japan's Kosuke Hagino won the gold medal in the men's 100-meter individual medley in the seventh leg of the World Cup series in Tokyo on Saturday.
Hagino, silver medalist in the 200-meter individual medley and 400 freestyle at the world championships in Barcelona in August, clocked a national short-course record of 51.58 seconds in the 25-meter pool at Tatsumi International Swimming Center.
Hagino also came second in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 1:51.02, finishing behind Chad le Clos of South Africa, who clocked 1:50.33. Japan's Takeshi Matsuda was third in 1:51.55.
Le Clos was in sizzling form as he took three titles including the 400 individual medley. Japan's Daiya Seto, the long-course world champion, was third in the 400 medley.
Elsewhere for Japan, Yasuhiro Koseki timed 2:03.63 to place second in the men's 200 breaststroke, but Akihiro Yamaguchi was eliminated in the heats.
Yuka Kato was second in the women's 100 butterfly in 56.09, and Koichiro Okazaki came in third in a Japanese short-course record of 26.47 in the men's 50 breast.
