Relegation-threatened Jubilo Iwata's nightmarish season just got worse as the former J. League champions were eliminated 1-0 by J2's Consadole Sapporo in the third round of the Emperor's Cup on Sunday.

Jubilo, who once lorded over the league alongside Kashima Antlers around the turn of the century, allowed Yumemi Kanda to score in the 66th minute before Consadole held on to reach the last 16.

In other third-round games, Omiya Ardija beat promotion favorites Gamba Osaka 4-3 on penalties after extra time to advance, and Vegalta Sendai also needed the shootout to oust Mito Hollyhock 3-1 following a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.

Cerezo Osaka hammered J2 leaders Vissel Kobe 4-0 behind a brace from Takuma Edamura while Oita Trinita edged Albirex Niigata 1-0 in extra time.

Japanese international Yohei Toyoda struck twice in Sagan Tosu's 3-1 extra-time away win to Matsumoto Yamaga, and Kofu eliminated Shonan Bellmare 1-0 also in 120 minutes.
