NEW YORK – Kei Nishikori will go into the U.S. Open with his highest seeding for a Grand Slam event, it was reported Monday, when seeds for the men’s singles draw were announced.
Nishikori, ranked 12th in the world, is seeded 11th for the tournament that kicks off on Aug. 26. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia is the first seed, while French Open champ Rafael Nadal of Spain is second. Britain’s Andy Murray, the defending U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion, is third.
Former world No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland is seeded seventh.
The seeds for women’s singles will be announced on Tuesday.
