Former world No. 1 Ai Miyazato goes into the U.S. Women's Open confident of capturing an elusive first major title on the LPGA Tour.
The LPGA hits the midpoint of its season this week with the third major of the campaign. Miyazato has yet to win this year and is coming off an 11th-place finish at the NW Arkansas Championship, scene of her last victory on the tour in 2012.
But she said, "My only goal is to win a major championship. I don't know when I will accomplish that but I will keep on challenging."
Miyazato has had four rounds at Sebonack Golf Club to get a proper feel for the course and she believes she is better prepared than she has been at previous majors.
"Looking back (at past majors) I probably didn't do enough groundwork. I think for the most part I have this course figured out," she said.
Namesake Mika Miyazato heads into the four-day event buoyed by a third-place finish in Arkansas and is hoping to improve on seventh place at last year's U.S. Women's Open.
"Compared to other tournaments this one has a special atmosphere," said Mika. "I will go into this tournament in the usual way."
