Chiba Lotte lefty Takuya Furuya fooled Orix Buffaloes batters for 8⅔ innings before losing his no-hitter, but held on to throw a one-hit shutout in his second career start.

The 31-year-old, who has dominated the Eastern League with the Marines' farm club this season, pitched the Pacific League leaders to a 7-0 victory over the Buffaloes at Kyocera Dome in his season debut with first team. His previous start with the big club was on Aug. 30, 2006, when he lasted two innings in his PL debut.

Furuya's best season so far came in 2010, when he contributed a 2.91 ERA in 58 games out of the bullpen during Lotte's Japan Series championship season.
