BERLIN – Mario Mandzukic scored against his former side as Bayern Munich maintained its Bundesliga title charge with a 2-0 win at Wolfsburg on Friday.
Bayern’s 10th away victory from 11 games, and 18th overall, extended its advantage over Borussia Dortmund to 18 points ahead of the champions’ game at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
“We’re not German champions yet,” said Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer, who is yet to concede a goal this year. “A lot of people are calculating the points difference but we have to keep playing.”
Mandzukic claimed his league-leading 15th goal of the season in the 36th minute with a fine overhead kick after Bastian Schweinsteiger played back Toni Kroos’ free kick. The Croatian refused to celebrate after spending two seasons at Wolfsburg.
With Wolfsburg chasing an equalizer that never looked likely, Arjen Robben came off the bench to seal the victory in stoppage time with the injury-plagued winger’s first goal of the season.
