Move to MLS can’t help star: Hodgson

England coach Roy Hodgson has indicated that Frank Lampard’s hopes of prolonging his international career could be harmed if he moves to Major League Soccer.

The 34-year-old midfielder netted the goal on Wednesday that clinched a 2-1 victory over Brazil, England’s first in 23 years over the five-time world champions.

Lampard has also scored 11 goals for Chelsea this season but has been told by the club that he won’t be offered a new contract at the end of the season.

Lampard has been linked to a move to David Beckham’s former club, the Los Angeles Galaxy.

And Hodgson says “if he does follow David and goes further afield, it complicates matters,” adding that tracking Lampard would be “problematic” if he moves outside of Europe.
