MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – Kurumi Nara and Erika Sema reached the second round of the Australian Open women’s qualifying as Yurika Sema and Junri Namigata crashed out Thursday.
Nara beat American Julia Cohen 6-0, 6-1 and Erika Sema got past Spain’s Ines Ferrer Suarez 6-4, 6-4 to advance. But Yurika Sema lost to Nicole Gibbs of the U.S. 6-4, 6-3 while Namigata was eliminated 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 by South Africa’s Chanel Simmonds.
The women’s main draw starts Monday.
