The Yomiuri Giants have signed former Chicago White Sox infielder Jose Lopez to a one-year deal worth ¥80 million.

The 29-year-old Venezuelan hit double-digit homers for five consecutive seasons with the Seattle Mariners from 2006 to 2010 and played in the 2006 All-Star Game. Lopez receives a ¥17 million signing bonus as part of the deal.

Lopez spent the majority of his time over nine seasons in the major leagues at second base but also covered third, first as well as shortstop. He batted .262 with 92 career home runs and 480 RBIs in 1,036 games.

Lopez, who has a career on-base percentage of .292, has been with four different major league organizations over the past two seasons.
