Pro golfer Hisayuki Sasaki, winner of the 1995 Japan PGA Championship, has died of heart failure in Bangkok, the Japan Golf Tour Organization said Friday. He was 48.

According to sources close to him, friends went to check on Sasaki after he did not come out of his hotel room on Thursday morning and found him collapsed on his bed. He was confirmed dead after being taken to a hospital.

A native of Tokyo, Sasaki turned pro in 1986. His other two career victories came at the 1994 Nippon Series and the 1997 Dydo-Drinco Shizuoka Open. He also played on the U.S. PGA Tour.
