FC Tokyo midfielder Yohei Kajiyama will be loaned out for six months to Panathinaikos in Greece's top league, the J-League top division side said Tuesday.

The term of the deal for Kajiyama, 27, is until June 30. He left Japan on Dec. 27 to join the Athens-based club.

Kajiyama, who made his first appearance for the Tokyo club in 2003, has 21 goals in 242 league matches. He played for Japan at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

"I will make efforts to make this a step up for me," said Kajiyama. "I will be happy if they (FC Tokyo) will look forward to my growth as a player, physically and mentally."

Panathinaikos, who play in the Super League Greece, are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in Greek football history. Former Japan manager Ivica Osim was at the helm of Panathinaikos from 1992 to 1994.
