Retiring striker Masashi Nakayama came on in the second half and scored in a charity match at Sendai's Yurtec Stadium on Wednesday.

Around 13,000 fans showed up to see a team composed of present and former national team players take on a squad made up of Vegalta Sendai players and natives of the Tohoku region. The Japan Stars defeated the Tohoku Dreams 5-2.

Nakayama, who scored 21 times in 53 games for Japan, energized the crowd when he netted the Japan Dreams' fifth goal.

The game was staged to support relief efforts for the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
