HIROSHIMA – The Hiroshima Carp have signed Venezuelan pitcher Miguel Socolovich to a one-year deal, the Central League club announced Tuesday.
The 26-year-old right-hander will receive ¥30 million plus performance-based incentives and a ¥10 million signing bonus.
Socolovich has pitched in 12 major league games, all this past season with the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs. In three seasons at the Triple-A level, he had a 2.99 ERA with 150 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings.
Hiroshima also announced it had re-signed Nick Stavinoha for next season. The 30-year-old right-handed hitter batted .238 with nine home runs in 52 games last year, his first in Japan.
His season ended on June 11, due to ligament damage in his left knee, and the Carp released him on Nov. 30.
