Free agent outfielder Ichiro Suzuki wants to re-sign with the New York Yankees, his agent was quoted as saying in a report in the New York Post on Saturday.
The 39-year-old Ichiro was acquired by the Yankees in a July trade after 11½ seasons with the Seattle Mariners. He batted .322 in 67 games for the Yankees and also appeared in a postseason game for the first time since 2001.
"There has been a lot of interest (from teams), but he (Ichiro) enjoyed playing for the Yankees so much it's hard for him to say no to the Yankees," the New York Post quoted Ichiro's agent Tony Attanasio as saying.
"His preference is to stay there instead of going someplace else, but we will wait and see," he said.
The report said before deciding on whether they want Ichiro back, the Yankees want to get pitchers Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera back in the fold.
"They are going after pitching first, which is what the Yankees normally do," said Attanasio.
