Former major leaguer Masao Kida, 44, who has not been included in the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters' plans for 2013, was among the 36 pitchers looking to continue their careers next season.
Ex-Orix infielder Katsuaki Furuki, who last played in 2009, was among the 20 position players.
Players took part in simulated game situations. A second tryout will be held on Nov. 21 at the Fighters' minor league facility in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture.
