WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama and WBC super flyweight title holder Yota Sato will aim to defend their titles in a world tripleheader on Dec. 31 organizers said Friday.
Fourteenth-ranked Kohei Kono will also take on Thai champion Tepparith Kokietgym for the WBA super flyweight crown in the New Year’s Eve boxing bonanza in Tokyo.
Uchiyama will make his sixth title defense against top-ranked Bryan Vasquez of Costa Rica.
“I want to welcome in the New Year with a solid win,” said Uchiyama, who beat Michael Farenas of the Philippines in July in his last title match.
Sato will aim to retain his belt for the second time against fifth-ranked compatriot Ryo Akaho.
“I have wanted to fight him for a long time,” said Sato, who successfully defended the WBC super flyweight title by unanimous decision over Sylvester Lopez of the Philippines in July.
