OBERSTDORF, GERMANY – Nobunari Oda cruised to victory in his comeback from injury on Friday at the Nebelhorn Trophy
Skating in his first competition since injuring his left knee at the Trophee Bompard in Paris last November, Oda held a lead of over 10 points after the short program. He then won the free skate, despite a few hiccups, finishing with a total of 233.33 points.
Oda had a shaky landing on his quad toeloop and made mistakes on some of his other jumps, but the 25-year-old was upbeat about the way he performed after such a long time out.
“It is a bit of a shame about the mistakes I made on my jumps and steps, but for a comeback it wasn’t bad,” said Oda, who finished 20.39 points ahead of Konstantin Menshov of Russia
Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova won the women’s short program with 58.48 points.
